Emily is a homeschooling mom who ordered the Piano and Ultimate Kits after coming across them on Instagram. She herself isn’t very tech-oriented and the homeschool philosophy she ascribes to, the Charlotte Mason method, is liberal-arts-forward. But her son is very into STEM subjects, so using Let’s Start Coding helped Emily supplement his education.
“I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH CODING OR HARDWARE AT ALL,” SHE SAID. “[MY 13 YEAR OLD] SAT NEXT TO ME AND SHOWED ME WHAT HE DID, I DIDN'T HELP AT ALL.”
Emily gave us some insight on how her homeschooling works:
“We do music and art appreciation, read poetry, copywork, nature study, handiwork and more. Then my oldest (13, 8th grade) is much more of a workbook kind of kid, he likes to be independent. My youngest (12, 7th grade) is more of a delight-directed or even unschool kind of kid. He is very into robotics and science. So, we check off the basics each day so he can spend time doing things he really enjoys. Homeschool allows for freedom to do learning however it looks for each child, and we love it.”
“It was pretty easy to get started, and I didn't need to help him at all,” she said. “It was open and go, really.”
When we asked Emily whether her son felt like his experience with Let’s Start Coding was more “fun” or more “educational,” she said, “He says a little bit of both, he really enjoyed it and learned, too.”
